Department Mission and Vision

  • The Department of English and Communication Studies offers an enriching and comprehensive study of English Language, Literature, Linguistics, Soft Skills and Communication Skills, and aims to provide students with an understanding of written and spoken word, as well as critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Established as the Department of Soft Skills in 2007 in the Faculty of Management Studies and later renamed as the Department of English and Communication Studies in 2016 in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the department offers students with opportunities and materials through which they can gain insights into Literature, Language, and Communications Skills and its impact on the society.
  • Additionally, the department provides a learning platform with emphasis on teaching pedagogy, effective communication, writing proficiency, and a global perspective in preparing the students for diverse career paths.
  • The department is guided by the principle of delivering all round development thorough sessions on Soft Skills and Communication Skills.
  • The Vision of the department is to develop a broader appreciation of the human experience and the power of language and discourse.
  • The department goes with the Mission of facilitating exposure to and transition amongst all aspects of English as a subject, namely, Literature, Language, Linguistics, Soft Skills and Communication Skills.

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate: Pass in Class XII (any discipline) Students awaiting results are also eligible to apply. Duration: 4 years
  • Postgraduate: B.A. in English (Hons.) with an aggregate of 45% Duration: 2 years

The department has a Creative Club and a Wall Magazine that encourages students to showcase their creative side. The main aim of these activities is to nurture and guide budding artists so that they can become self-sufficient individuals and work as independent freelancers. The department also focuses on organising seminars and guest lectures to expose the students to various facets of knowledge and workings of the subject area. Additionally, the students are also being guided to write their dissertations, which will further foster their critical thinking and thought process enabling them to be acquainted with the research methodology in Doctoral Programs later on.
